Michael Schafler’s practice focuses on high risk matters, including the defense of criminal charges and complex civil litigation. He has defended individuals in a wide array of white collar criminal matters, including securities and investment fraud, cyber-crimes, tax fraud, perjury, immigration and customs fraud, money laundering, counterfeiting, false statements, and identity theft. He previously specialized in complex commercial, environmental, intellectual property, and appellate matters.
Mr. Schafler has represented individuals and entities at all stages of federal criminal proceedings, including in both felony and misdemeanor trials and has represented clients before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Schafler has also represented clients in all manner of civil and administrative matters.
Mr. Schafler began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable William J. Rea, United States District Court for the Central District of California and then to the Honorable Ferdinand F. Fernandez, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He rejoined Caldwell Leslie & Proctor after a four-year term as a Trial Deputy in the Office of the Federal Public Defender in the Central District of California.
