Albert Giang joined Caldwell Leslie in December 2004 after clerking on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals with the Honorable Richard A. Paez. Mr. Giang graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School in 2002. At Stanford, he worked with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and externed in the Northern District of California for the Honorable Thelton E. Henderson. Mr. Giang was also involved in various public interest activities at Stanford, including serving as a Public Interest Fellow from 2000-2001 and co-chairing the inaugural Asian Pacific American Law Students Association Conference. Mr. Giang worked for one year as an associate at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood prior to clerking on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Since joining the firm in 2004, Mr. Giang has collaborated on several successful motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment for his clients. Recently, he helped a major oil company obtain a dismissal with prejudice of a federal class action lawsuit on preemption grounds. He was part of the team that obtained summary judgment for a Fortune 500 media company in an age discrimination lawsuit, where he played a key role in defending the favorable judgment in the California Court of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court. On the plaintiff’s side, in a class action on behalf of investors who lost millions of dollars in a Ponzi scheme, Mr. Giang worked on the team that defeated several motions to dismiss, obtained class certification, and obtained a favorable settlement to return millions of dollars to the victims of the scheme. He has also participated in various white collar matters, including a court-ordered investigation into prosecutorial misconduct in a federal criminal case in which he successfully compelled the U.S. Department of Justice to produce previously withheld internal documents.

Mr. Giang also serves on the firm’s Pro Bono Task Force and has worked on several pro bono matters. Recently, he represented a client in removal proceedings before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, ultimately succeeding in reopening his client’s case. He also collaborated with Public Counsel to obtain an adjustment of status for an Eritrean immigrant in deportation proceedings. In addition to these immigration cases, he has worked on a number of matters for the LGBT community, including one case where he helped obtain a favorable settlement in a contract dispute for a nonprofit gay rights organization.
